About

The CPAs, Chartered Accountants, engineers, and subject-matter experts who build WorkpaperOS.

WorkpaperOS is built by people who have spent careers inside the work the software is for - US CPA practice, Big Four audit, SAP-scale ERP implementation, healthcare operations, and full-stack engineering. Based in Richmond, Columbus, and Berlin, with practitioners across the OHADA region.

Founder note

WorkpaperOS exists because the work was painful - and the tools never actually changed it. Benedict E. Mbecha spent fifteen years inside audit, technical accounting, and ERP implementation - at PricewaterhouseCoopers Virginia, at Akintola Williams Cameroon, and as managing partner of a Richmond accounting firm, with an MBA specialized in SAP Finance and SAP implementation work inside a Fortune-scale healthcare enterprise. Every engagement, the same pattern: workpapers in Excel, evidence in email, sign-offs in Word, payroll in one system, books in another. He knew the heavyweight fix firsthand, because he had implemented it - SAP-class systems change the work, at budgets no accounting firm or small operator can touch. Everything else just moved the manual routine into a browser: practice tools that track the work, portals that collect it, checklists that describe it - and none that actually do it.

AI finally changes the economics: bots that extract, match, tie out, and draft while people review and sign. But AI in this profession is only worth trusting when the people directing it have done the work - and hold the licenses that stand behind it. WorkpaperOS's bots are directed by a founder who is an active CPA in three US states and completed Harvard Business School Online's AI for Leaders program, and advised by a chartered accountant and former Deloitte Country Managing Partner with four decades of audit leadership. A licensed professional stays in the loop on every judgement call.

The name is the promise. The workpaper is the profession's oldest artifact; the OS is the modern engine underneath it. Old craft, new machinery - the workspace we wish had existed when we were on the audit floor.

Leadership

WorkpaperOS is led by its founder - who co-founded the company with physician Susana Mbeboh, MD, Medical Director of WorkpaperOS Health and the Healthcare Apprenticeship - and advised by one of the most experienced audit leaders in the profession. Around them sits a multidisciplinary bench: physicians shaping the health and apprenticeship curricula, software engineers building the platform, and licensed CPA and ACCA practitioners.

Why this team

What makes WorkpaperOS different from generic accounting software.

Built by people who do the work

Every workflow in WorkpaperOS started as a real engagement procedure, not a product team's whiteboard. The audit module follows how Big Four alumni actually run a file; the books and payroll modules follow how a working accountant actually closes, reconciles, and files.

US-first, multi-jurisdiction by design

Active CPA licenses in New York, Virginia, and Ohio lead the practice. The workflows are built for US firms first - US engagement standards, US payroll, US healthcare operators - on an architecture designed from day one to serve additional jurisdictions from the same workspace.

Apprentice-first, two tracks deep

WorkpaperOS Apprenticeship runs two tracks - Accounting, led by a Fellow of ACCA who has spent a decade as an Oxford Brookes Registered Mentor guiding ACCA candidates through the BSc Applied Accounting; and Healthcare, led by a US Master of Healthcare Administration with ten years inside Virginia and Maryland care operations. Both tracks share the same workspace the firm uses for client work. The software is what we needed first.

Build with us.

WorkpaperOS is hiring across engineering, audit practice, healthcare apprenticeship, and country-specific accounting workflow design. We are particularly interested in licensed CPAs, ACCA / FCCA practitioners with Big Four experience, full-stack engineers, and US-licensed healthcare administrators with operations experience in small and medium agencies.
